What the Glass Balustrade Sensor does

The Glass Balustrade Climb Detection Sensor detects pressure from an attempted climb-over and transmits a wireless alarm event.

Its intended alarm response depends on the paired receiver, zone configuration and project design.

This product is part of a security system and does not replace physical protection or certified life-safety equipment.

Important height warningBecause the product is secured solely by a cured construction-sealant bond, Apeiron Guard does not recommend installation at a height of 3 m or above. Installation at this height may proceed only after a competent installer has completed and documented a full site-specific assessment of the mounting location, substrate condition, environmental exposure, falling-object risk and bonding suitability, and has determined that the product can be installed safely and securely. The installer remains responsible for the installation method and for compliance with all applicable work-at-height and safety requirements.

Do

  • Test the radio event at the proposed position before permanent mounting.
  • Use only straight, stable tempered or laminated glass no more than 20 mm thick.
  • Fit the U-channel directly over the supported exposed glass edge and apply compatible structural sealant inside the channel; no gasket, liner, primer or protective insert is required.
  • Confirm any glass coating is compatible with the selected structural sealant.
  • For an existing top cap, use the Glass Balustrade Sensor only when the cap is no more than 20 mm wide. Use the Fence Top Sensor when the cap is at least 50 mm wide.
  • Assess handrails, unusual profiles, glass joints, posts, corners, top-rail transitions and drainage openings onsite; installation may not be possible at these features.
  • Verify repeated operation before handing over the system.

Do not

  • Do not install on cracked, chipped, loose or otherwise damaged glass.
  • Do not install the Glass Balustrade Sensor on exposed glass or an existing top cap over 20 mm thick or wide.
  • Top caps from 21 mm through 49 mm are unsupported.
  • Do not use a coating or cleaning method that is incompatible with the structural sealant.
  • Do not bridge glass joints, posts, corners, top-rail transitions or drainage openings without a safe, stable detail confirmed by the installer onsite.
  • Do not drill into, open, paint or modify the enclosure.
  • Do not substitute screws, gaskets, liners, primers, inserts or an unapproved bonding system.
  • Do not rely on the maximum radio range without an on-site test.

Installation steps

Follow this sequence for an approved Glass Balustrade Sensor installation.

Survey and mark the protected run

Confirm the tempered or laminated glass edge is straight, stable, undamaged and no more than 20 mm thick. Confirm any coating is compatible with the selected structural sealant.

  • For an existing top cap, use this sensor only when the cap is no more than 20 mm wide. Top caps from 21 mm through 49 mm are unsupported; use the Fence Top Sensor at 50 mm or wider.
  • Assess handrails, unusual profiles, glass joints, posts, corners, top-rail transitions and drainage openings onsite.
  • Installation may not be possible where the installer cannot confirm a safe, stable detail.

Order the correct sensor lengths

Use standard 500 mm units for the main run and custom 300 mm or 200 mm units for shorter sections.

  • Measure the complete protected length.
  • Allow for a minimum 2 mm gap between every pair of adjacent sensors.
  • Confirm the complete unit schedule and quantities before ordering.

Prepare the glass edge and U-channel

Clean and dry the supported exposed glass edge or eligible top cap and the inside of the sensor U-channel using methods compatible with the structural sealant.

  • The U-channel fits directly over the edge; no gasket, liner, primer or protective insert is required.
  • Do not proceed on cracked, chipped, loose or otherwise damaged glass.
  • Keep drainage openings unobstructed.

Apply structural sealant inside the U-channel

Apply two or three straight lines of compatible construction-grade structural sealant inside the sensor U-channel.

  • Follow the sealant manufacturer’s preparation, PPE, application and curing guidance.
  • No other mounting accessories are required.
  • Do not substitute screws or an unapproved bonding system.

Place, space and secure each unit

Fit each Glass Balustrade Sensor directly over the marked edge and maintain a minimum 2 mm gap between adjacent sensors.

  • Keep each top face level and unobstructed.
  • Do not bridge a site feature that has not been assessed as suitable.
  • Prevent rain or water contact for 48 hours while the sealant cures.

Commission the complete run

After the structural sealant has cured, trigger and test every installed unit from its final position with the paired hub or I/O module.

  • Verify the correct zone name.
  • Repeat each functional test at least three times.
  • Record installation photos and test results before handover.

Pairing & commissioning

Complete the final approved system sequence before customer release.

Follow the receiver-specific guide for enrollment, zone naming, success indications and removal.
